Components from Accelerator Areas/Clearance

Components coming from an Accelerator Area (Areas with potential activation of material) have to be cleared or evacuated by the responsible RPO. Further information can be found on the page Clearance.

Labelling of radioactive materials

Labels exist for components with significant dose rates (Vorsicht Strahlung) and components, which have not been cleared (Radioaktive Stoffe).

Visitors in Controlled Areas

At DESY and XFEL visitors are allowed to shortly enter Controlled Areas in company of trained personal and without conducting any work. Pregnant and breastfeeding women as well as children under the age of 18 are not allowed to enter Controlled Areas. The precise rules and the required training certificates for visitors can be found here.

Pregnant women in Controlled Areas

Pregnant or breastfeeding women are not allowed to enter Controlled Areas at DESY or XFEL. In case of questions please contact your RPO or D3.

Contractors in Controlled Areas

All contractors require a permit according to §25 Radiation Preotection Ordiance (§25 StrlSchG) to be able to work in Controlled Areas at DESY. The contractor needs to apply for the permit at the competent authority. More information on working at DESY using a §25 permit can be found here.
